One thing...
I have noticed recently at various places, which I won't name here, have, to a point, high-turnover in employment of people. Its unbelievable what the turnover is like at several places here in Fairbanks (AK).
Granted I could see where some people are coming from and the like. However, its not to much to say that it could be the management style of the business or people not fully doing the work at their place of employ.
But, then I could be asking for torture, since I could, however unlikely, that I'm thinking if the people at my old job would welcome me back or not, it could be worth a shot or not. Who knows in what could happen about that.
Anyways, as you might have noticed by this post I'm trying to get another job or at least I'm looking and putting in applications around town. Just haven't heard back from a couple of places but I wasn't expecting a call from those places anyway. I tend to like to put applications in when I can, just for the sake of trying at the possibility of getting hired on.
Plus, I like to work in groups most of the time and in other times alone.
At this point I'm babbling like a rabbit ;-)

"The Simpsons": 16 Going on 350! - Yahoo! News
I found this story about The Simpsons which I got a chuckle out of it because I remember watching The Simpsons when it was on The Tracy Ullman Show back in the late '80s. Plus, in a way I still can't believe that this series has been on for so long too.
This is one of the show I try to remember on watching on consistent basis but turn to the channel on Sunday after the fact which sucks big time.

Doing homework, school and life etc...
I don't know why but for this past week, I just didn't want to do any posts of any kind to this blog or any of the other blogs that I've on my site. I guess its partly due to the fact that my brother was in town last week, and in turn didn't feel up to doing homework in any fashions to any great extent or do a lot of postings.
As I'm writing this post, that I've noticed or realized that I tend to a lot of posts during a several week periods then in other weeks I tend to whole lot less posts for a week or more.
Just that some of the time there things that I would like to talk about and such. Then there are other things that I don't tend to get around to comment on or talk about anything in specific or in general. Plus, as the spring semester comes to a close at UAF, I tend to put off of doing homework as much as I can before everything is due before the next class starts the next week.
This is the first year that I've been at UAF that I've taken more than 9 credits during a semester. Like, for example, Fall 2004 I took 5 classes and now in Spring 2005 I'm taking 4 classes, in which I could do every year to get closer to my desired degree's. However, in my case it depends greatly on what courses that I do register for the next term at UAF.
Like for the Fall 2005 term I'm planning to take at least 2 classes, 1 math class and a communications class. Though, I'm thinking of taking one more class, but just don't know what else to take. I probably should have one more class next fall, but at this point I'm not sure that I really want to take 3 classes. But, then I'll probably decide on what other classes I need when I go and talk to advisers about my class schedule for this coming fall.

Sin City
I finally got around to seeing a movie at the local cineplex, haven't been to movie at the theater say like in a good six months to 1 yr.
The that I was able to see and get into on a late Thursday night was SinCity with Bruce Willis. Its one of those movies where you need to be on time for to see. Not like 15 or 20 minutes late after the movie started, which happened with me, as I saw it with my older brother, who was in town this past week.
The movie itself was good, and it would've been better if I was able to see the beginning of the movie. This gives me a reason to see Sin City again in the afternoon when the ticket prices aren't so high.
Plus, there are some other movies that I would like see but I might not cause of many reasons.

blogging bans
I've read a story on The Blog Herald website/blog that Iowa schools has joined in the banning of blogs. Read on if you like.
I just wonder if this is going to be a trend in all public schools across the country. It would be interesting to find out over the next several years, that other states would do.

Final Project Proposal
The final project for this class would be to gather, collect, and follow Soccer Clubs here in the U.S. and several soccer/football teams from England, Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand. I would also link to big soccer/football site's and Soccer Club site - if available. The reason is that I've always liked soccer, in some fashion. In this project I would be focusing on 6 to 12 soccer clubs - those based here in the U.S. and in the U.K.
I might use the following tools in addition to the required parts for the final project:
- RSS/Atom feeds
- Technorati
- Creative Commons

Macromedia & Adobe
I recently read that Adobe is buying out Macromedia for US$ 3.4Billion in a stock deal. Its seems that the only really good products that Adobe have are Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat. Their other products are O.K. and all but it just seems that this 'merger' or 'buy out' just seems wrong to me. Don't know why but it does.
I just hope that products from Macromedia don't get discontinued. Knowing my luck, Macromedia product more than likely would disappear altogether after a period of time after the buyout.

Interesting stories.....
There have been several articles and or stories that I've found at various site thru feeds that I have setup at bloglines.com. Anyway, the articles that I've relate to blogging to Science, Technology, and to teaching, plus many other interesting article that I found worthy to comment on. Also, some of these stories are from the beginning of April, so some are dated articles.
So, please read on.....
- ABCNews.com - Review: Atari Game Strikes Familiar Chord - This story reminds me when I used to play Atari when I was younger.
- ABCNews.com - Alaska Could See Mushroom Boom in 2005 - I think this story was in the News-Miner but don't know for sure. It's interesting if you like mushrooms.
- ABCNews.com - Mammoth Remains Unearthed in California - An interesting story if your into natural history or like that period of time of history.
- The Blog Herald - Blogs being used for scams - Just another way for spammers to get money or to wreck havoc on people's computers.
- The Blog Herald - Blogger has over 8 million blogs: study - Another interesting factiod about blogger.com.
- News.com - Blog censorship gains support - This article does have some valid points about not publishing personal information regardless of who it is.
- News.com - Del.icio.us tastes funding - Since we have been talking about this in class and just thought of passing it along.
- News.com - teachers leave grading up to the computer - Thought this was interesting to begin with.
- CNN.com - Mars rover mission extended - Just an interesting story about Mars.
- CNN.com - Japan's moon base project faces hurdle - If you like space and travel to the stars type person.
- CNN.com - Archaeologists discover ancient Mayan saltworks - since I like to know about ancient cultures, I thought I would pass it on.

An article about MySql
This article on Yahoo! News caught my attention, in part because I took Chris's class fall. Plus, anything that's stable, open source, free, and if its been around for a long time is a good thing for people.

I found this post interesting because blogger.com has finally gotten around of having a captcha (defination) setup for new blog setup, which is a good thing for trying to slow spam blogging.

the local radio stations & maroon 5 songs...
One thing I've noticed over the last several months is that the local radio stations seem to play songs from Maroon 5 so much that I think its getting too much to listen to the radio when song's from them are on. The music from Maroon 5 is good, I even have their cd, but their music is being played way too much here in Fairbanks, Alaska, so much that the radio station that play them will od all of the songs, and won't play them for a while.
Its just that playing songs from any specific band to much, like Maroon 5 is beginning to get really annoying to me at this point in time, by playing their songs to much.
Although, I could this about bands, artists, etc., however, it just seems that most of the radio stations that do play Maroon 5 have also overplayed music from other groups, bands, etc., like Green Day yrs ago in the late '90s.
If their music is played like 4 or 5 thru out the day would be one thing to me but like 7-9 times in a day (from what I could tell) is way too much for to hear.
But, hey I could totally wrong on how many times the songs from Maroon 5 are played thru out the day.
Yahoo! News - Nirvana, Public Enemy Preserved
Just a story that caught my attention, in part by that I like to listen to Nirvana. Read on if your interested to know more.

Here's a another reason not to buy a house in California
If you follow the tech sector in general or otherwise you might get a kick out this story about Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle (a database software manufacturer). Anyways, I got kick of the story because of 2 reasons 1.) the sale price of the is US$25 Million in Atherton, California 2.) I used to live in Atherton, California before moving up to Alaska. Also, happen to know the general area where his home is too in this town.

Good (or bad) news for Colorado - depending on how you look at
This story on ABCnews.com talks about the above normal wet weather, as in recent snow fall and the like.
Now I wish there was more wetter weather in the drier plains states and other mid-west states in the region.
Even though people are having trouble leaving the Denver area, and not un til later this week, which is a pain of the butt about it, regardless.

Another reason to be careful while on the net
Here is a story about stalking in the 'blogoshere' of the net. Its just sick that someone would be doing this type of thing on the net, but then anything is possible. In some cases it may be easier to do things online then offline, but it really does depend on what your doing on the net though. Regardless, everyone should be careful on what they do, even myself has become more cautious in doing stuff on the net.

a problem with blogger...
Tonight, early this morning of April 6 -7 is one of very few times that I've noticed that blogger.com has put posts in a different order other than the time it was posted to this blog. The only way I could counter this problem of having out of order posting is to change the day and time of a single posting which does fix the problem. I just wonder if this a bug with blogger.com's servers or what ever it might be, its just driving me bonkers when it does happen.
Plus, this is another reason why I'm going to move all of the posts here on this blog to new blog at the end of May. I'll still have this blog up as a archive type thing for bit of time though.

All about the future of blogging?
This article is quite interesting because it talks about the brief history that blogging has been around and also talks about where it would be going. It also talks about the recent legal cases that have happened, like Apple Computer suing several sites, and etc.
It also talks about what happened to Dan Rather, simply because of the pressure from bloggers.
Seems like that by having a blog of some kind does help, whether or not if its a good thing, but then it would depend on what you use the blog for. It seems that I find a lot of blogs that are just spam blogs which is a waste of space on servers and such. Yet, after going through a lot of blogs, you could find really good blogs out there in the sphere of blogs.

If you ever going to a .pro domain please read on..
Well, I've this story rather interesting about how a company has found a way to sell .pro domains by the way of a loophole.
Seems like that companies will do and find any way to make money. Granted I have nothing wrong of making a profit, but it should be done within reason. The bad part of it is being caught in the process of doing 'bad business' in making money.

Lego's or Linux
The first story that I found is about the Linux founder Linus Torvalds going about and making a very small part of Linux closed-source or other wise know as proprietary software. To read more please follow this link.
Another interesting that I found was about Lego's, which I use to play when I was younger some 20+ yrs ago, which happens to a 'Danish-based toymaker,' a fact that I did not know. Tidbit information like this, I get surprised like in this case. To read the story follow this link. But then this story is a business story.

A mix of tech, science, space & several other stories...
There are some more article's that I've found to be interesting to mention on and thought it might be of some interest to post here on my class journal. As the title of this post suggests I'll be posting about 6-12 story links, along with my 2 cents.
- ABC News - Monterey Aquarium Releases White Shark: Just thought of sharing this if you like the ocean as much as I do. Plus, I used to a member at the Monterey Bay Aquarium - when I was still living down in the S.F. Bay Area.
- ABC News - Space Station Crew Excited by Discovery: I just like this story, simply in part that it deals with the space program and space itself.
- BBC News - Blogging East to West: What is said in this article is enlighten to say the least on how far governments will do and how far they will go.
- CNN.com - Alaska zoo elephant to get treadmill: This story was in the Fairbanks Daily-News Miner yesterday (4/4/05). Its just another Alaska type story.
- CNN.com - Ancient Egyptian boats discovered: Just another article that caught my eye and I do like Ancient Egypt to some degree.
- CNN.com - Picking up where Genesis left off: Another story about space and the like that caught my attention.
A story about Alaska & Tuberculosis
I found this story because its in Alaska and since its a story that I found a little disturbing, to say the least.
Its about Tuberculosis cases are growing in a region of Alaska. The story is 2 pages long.

Entertainment stories I found to be weird or strange...
Recently, well since spring break last month, I've been using bloglines.com to get news feeds delivered to me at one place. Anyway, there are at least 2 entertainment stories that I found interesting or struck me in a way to make a comment on or 2.
Below are 2 links plus my 2 cents worth about them.
- ABC News - Sinead O'Connor Recording Reggae: I shouldn't find this odd or strange in anyway simply because of who she is, but still, this seems strange for her to do - at least to me anyway. I used to listen to her work back in the early '90s but haven't listened to any of her stuff since.
- CNN.com - BBC rejects 'Springer' complaints: Well, this story center's around Jerry Springer for the 'musical' that was aired in the UK recently. There was about 55,000 complaints before this specific show aired & 8,000 after it was aired. Please read the story to get the full details.

Just wanted to post 2 cents about it.

Wired News: God of War No False Idol
I've seen ads for a new game for the Playstation called God of War, and from what I could tell that its one of the better games coming out or currently out there - don't know for sure though. Anyway, it seems like that I'm really intrigued by this game that I want to go out and buy it along with a Playstation console.
As it is, I've always liked, to some degree, Greek Myths, History, culture and the like, which is partly why I'm so interested in this game. But, then I got even more interested in this game after reading this story.
But then I've usually have been a PC gamer not a console gamer, if you, the blog reader, have suggestions for other good games of late, please feel free to comment on this post.

What would you do if your site is 'hit' in other parts of the world
I found this story a little funny because it's what could be called an unexpected surprise 'hit' in other parts of the world, and not in the intended market of service, etc.
Plus, whenever this happens any company should act quickly enough not lose enough customers in that unexpected market.
